The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an updated Letter to Health Care Personnel and Facilities: FDA No Longer Authorizes Use of Non-NIOSH-Approved or Decontaminated Disposable Respirators. The FDA is revoking the EUAs for non-NIOSH-approved disposable respirators (revocation effective July 6, 2021) and the EUAs for decontamination and bioburden reduction systems (revocation effective June 30, 2021). As of the effective date of the revocations, these devices will no longer be authorized for use by health care personnel in health care settings. These actions are in follow-up to the May 27, 2021, letter in which the FDA recommended a transition away from non-NIOSH-approved disposable respirators as well as from reusing decontaminated or bioburden-reduced disposable respirators. We are looking for a 10-minute presentation of an activity or program or collaboration that has helped your community increase vaccinations, reach vulnerable populations, etc.
Please contact Jim Koval in the CHECC by July 8 at Noon if you are available to present on either of these calls.
The World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with partners, expert networks, national authorities, institutions and researchers have been monitoring and assessing the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 since January 2020. During late 2020, the emergence of variants that posed an increased risk to global public health prompted the characterization of specific Variants of Interest (VOIs) and Variants of Concern (VOCs), to prioritize global monitoring and research, and ultimately to inform the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The WHO has set up a website for tracking SARS-COVID-2 variants.
The monthly PHEP Partners Call will take place on July 8 at 1:30 pm via Microsoft Teams.
