Staying safe after Spring travel

Protect Michigan Commission

Receiving the vaccine as soon as possible will help protect you and your communities from COVID-19, but the virus and its variants are still a threat to Michiganders.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has resources available for families who have traveled for Spring Break and are returning home.

Get a test when you get home

There are pop-up testing sites across the state that are available to those who traveled away from home during Spring Break, whether it was across the state, out of state or out of the country. The tests are free and results are quick. A full database of test locations that includes airports, welcome centers, schools and churches is available. Travelers can sort by return date and find out where they can go for a test and the site’s hours of operation.

Michiganders should also continue to wear a mask over their nose and mouth in public settings, avoid crowds and maintain social distancing of at least six feet from anyone they did not travel with. It is also suggested that they carry hand sanitizer of at least 60% alcohol in case washing their hands with soap and water is not readily available. For more travel tips, visit Michigan.gov/coronavirus.

Additionally, it is recommended that those who travel get tested three to five days after their trip and stay home and self-quarantine during this time period. If you don’t get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
