Protect Michigan Commission Weekly Newsletter
April 6, 2021
This week we are highlighting the work of Protect Michigan Commission’s Veterans Workgroup.
The group has not only been strategizing ways to reach and educate veterans across Michigan about the safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine, but it is organizing clinics and vaccinating veterans, too.
On March 22, 328 veterans, their family members and caregivers received the vaccine at a Marquette clinic organized by Workgroup members. Following the success in Marquette, a second vaccination clinic is planned at Ferris State University on April 26. The workgroup hopes to vaccinate 300 veterans, family members and caregivers. A vaccine clinic located in Macomb County is also in the planning stages for late April with the goal of vaccinating more than 500 people.
“Our goal is to give Michigan veterans the tools they need to learn about the vaccine and to empower them to receive the vaccine,” said Erika Hoover, Veterans Workgroup Chair.
The Workgroup has announced a Facebook townhall for April 15. The speakers will address vaccine hesitancy among veterans and answer questions about the vaccine. We'll send out more information soon.
