January PHEP Partners Monthly Conference Call

The January PHEP Partners call takes place January 9, 2020, at 1:30 pm. Here is the agenda. This is the required monthly conference call for all LHD EPCs that takes place on the second Thursday of the month at 1:30 pm.

CPG Assessment Tool for LHDs (Activity 7.2) – Due February 14

The Capabilities Planning Guide (CPG) assessment tool is now available and must be completed by all LHDs no later than COB Friday, February 14, 2020.

The CPG is a planning tool developed by CDC based on the 2018 Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Capabilities and is required of all state awardees to complete each year.  This year, DEPR is asking all LHDs to complete the CPG from the local perspective.  This tool allows LHDs to identify Task and Resource Element gaps for each Function within 14 of the 15 Capabilities.  Capability 12: Public Health Laboratory Testing is not included in this assessment as most LHDs do not have public health lab capacity within their jurisdiction.  Each Capability has two parts.  Part I identifies self-assessed Task and Resource Element gaps for each individual Function, while Part II addresses the Capability as a whole, assessing the level of importance, current jurisdictional ability and any barriers to achieve full ability.

Anticipate an average of 30-45 minutes per Capability to complete. Only one response per device is allowed, however you can start and stop the survey at any time as well as move back and forth between questions until the final submit button is selected.  Survey Monkey uses cookies so to go back into your survey you must use the same device and same web browser you used to start the survey. For convenience, you may wish to utilize the attached PDF of the survey questions to gather responses before entering them into the online tool.

**IMPORTANT NOTE:  When completing the assessment, you will need to refer to the full Capabilities document (2018 version: https://www.cdc.gov/cpr/readiness/capabilities.htm) for additional detail and description of the Tasks and Resource Elements.  The assessment tool does not provide a complete description which can limit understanding of these elements and skew your assessment.

Results will be used to inform state and local level planning as part of a continuous quality improvement (CQI)-based approach for the remainder of the 2019-2024 project period.  After the due date, DEPR will send each EPC a copy of their individual survey responses for record keeping purposes.  In addition, a final report of statewide results will also be shared.

NEHA Launches Virtual Community of Practice called the Private Water Network

The National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) is pleased to announce the launch of the Private Water Network (PWN). The Private Water Network (PWN) is a virtual community of practice for those individuals working to protect the public’s health from contaminants in private drinking water sources. Prior to the launch of the PWN, there was no one-stop-shop resource for peer-learning and information exchange for professionals that serve communities with private drinking water systems. Through a partnership between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA), and the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI), the PWN was established to fill that void. NEHA is hosting a Private Water Network Launch Webinar on January 13 at 2 PM ET.
