August PHEP Partners Call

The Pandemic All Hazards Preparedness and Advancing Innovation Act of 2019 (PAHPAIA) requires the Secretary of HHS to prepare a report to Congress outlining a strategy for public health preparedness and response that addresses cybersecurity threats. Cybersecurity is becoming an increasingly important part of public health emergency preparedness and response as more and more of our systems are internet-based computer programs; e.g., MIHAN, MICIMS, MDSS, MCIR, etc.
DEPR found three resources that might be useful to LHDs and tribal health partners. They are linked below. The first resource comes from the federal Office of Civil Rights (OCR). This document is a checklist for a HIPPA covered entity (or business associate) to use in the event of a cyber attack on their computer systems. The footnotes in the checklist provide links to additional resources and background information.
The second and third resources address the issues surrounding ransomware attacks. This includes a fact sheet from OCR that discusses ransomware and HIPPA and a technical guidance document developed by a multi-agency federal task force that advises protect a network from ransomware.
