Measles Outbreak

As of April 2, 2019, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed 34 total measles cases statewide since March 13, 2019. Oakland County has 33 cases and one case was a Wayne County resident. Infected individuals range in age from 8 months to 63 years. Spots open for the 19th Annual Michigan Communicable Disease Conference

There are still a few spots open for the 19th Annual Michigan Communicable Disease Conference being held April 18 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bay City - Riverfront Hotel: 1 Wenonah Park Place, Bay City, MI 48708.

 

Michigan's State and Local Public Health partnership conference provides the latest knowledge and best practices for communicable disease diagnosis, surveillance, reporting, laboratory test interpretation, and incorporation of epidemiologic principles. Dr. Emily Martin from the University of Michigan is the keynote speaker. Dr. Martin will be speaking on "Influenza Vaccine Effectiveness: Local Data with Global Impact."

DEPR Staff Changes

Patrick Guysky, the PHEP financial analyst in the Division of Emergency Preparedness and Response (DEPR) is leaving DEPR to take a finance position in the Department of Technology, Management and Budget, Office of Retirement Services. Patrick’s last day at DEPR is April 3. Join DEPR in wishing Patrick all the best in his new job. Jean Chabut Health Policy Champion Award

The Michigan Public Health Week Partnership has selected the winners of the Hometown Health Hero and Jean Chabut Health Policy Champion Awards for 2019. Oakland County Health Division is among the award winners, and will be recognized as a Jean Chabut Health Policy Champion for its attainment of Project Public Health Ready recognition. The presentation of awards will take place on Wednesday, April 10 in the rotunda of the State Capitol in Lansing. This event is open to the public.
