CHECC Activation for Hepatitis A Outbreak Response

MDHHS activated the Community Health Emergency Coordination Center (CHECC) on October 31, 2017 to assist with the coordination of public health and medical response activities in the current hepatitis A outbreak. The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) has also been activated. A coordination call between the CHECC and EPCs at health departments with outbreak cases within their jurisdictions is scheduled for this afternoon. A statewide public information coordination call between the MDHHS Communications Director, CHECC Communications, and LHD PIOs is scheduled for tomorrow morning. LHDs with questions or issues related to the Hepatitis A response should contact the CHECC Response Coordinator at checcdeptcoor@michigan.gov. For more information about the hepatitis A outbreak, visit www.michigan.gov/hepatitisAoutbreak.

CDC RealOpt Training Sessions

Additional offerings of the virtual instructor-led RealOpt class on point-of-dispensing (POD) sites are now available. RealOpt POD is a computer modeling program that can help MCM planners design POD sites and treatment clinics. The free virtual classes are designed to provide participants with a better understanding of the functions of the RealOpt computer modeling program and its usefulness in validating POD throughput rates and staff resource allocations. The CDC Division of State and Local Readiness (DSLR) encourages POD managers, local and state MCM planners, and other preparedness staff members to enroll in this three-hour course through CDC Train. Below are links to more information on the upcoming 2017 and 2018 training sessions.

LHD Staff Change

Jessica Vigenski will be leaving the EPC position at the Huron County Health Department on November 22, 2017. Juliann Koehn (koehnj@hchd.us) will be filling in until a replacement is hired.

CDC Tool: How to Develop Medical Surge Planning Workshops

How to Develop Medical Surge Planning Workshops is a tool community planners can use to develop workshops focused on medical surge planning. The processes and templates included in the tool were developed and refined by the Healthcare Preparedness and Response Team (in the CDC DSLR Capacity Building Branch) and Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) using experiences gained from seven years in conducting community workshops.

CDC Pandemic Influenza Electronic Exercise Tool

The Pandemic Influenza Electronic Exercise Tool is designed to aid communities in developing a virtual pandemic influenza exercise. The exercise tool uses electronic systems such as email or a video tabletop exercise format to facilitate participation from sectors by avoiding the need for an exercise venue or requiring participants to travel to an exercise location. Local partners and ORAU helped to develop the tool, and, along with CDC subject matter experts, assisted in developing the materials for the exercise.
