BP1-17 LHD Work Plan Deliverable 17.2 – LHD EM/Domain V Survey

The LHD Work Plan Deliverable 17.2 survey is linked below. The survey is due October 27, 2017. As noted in the work plan, the survey addresses topics related to emergency management and Domain V Capabilities. Multi-county LHDs are expected to submit a survey response for each county within their jurisdiction.
Survey information will be collected and reviewed by DEPR, and the results will be discussed on a future EPC call and during the June 2018 in-person meeting. The contact information provided will be kept as a confidential list, to be used only for emergency preparedness and response purposes. The focus of the survey is on four main topics. The first, being the role of local public health in the LEOC during emergencies, and how they are integrated within local emergency management plans. In addition, the survey seeks to provide insight as to how local public health is involved in mass care, mass fatality operations, and volunteer management. For these functions, note that the LHD's role may only be to assist other local agencies and/or community organizations. For questions, contact Jennifer Lixey Terrill at lixeyterrillj@michigan.gov or 517-930-0671.

Additionally, a separate survey is being distributed through MSP District Coordinators to local emergency management. That survey is focused mainly on Volunteer Reception Centers (VRC). A copy of the survey questions are linked below for reference. The additional emergency management survey results will complement the LHD information being collected. For questions regarding the local emergency management survey, contact Virginia Zimmerman at zimmermanv@michigan.gov.

Toolkit for Homeless Service Providers and Disaster Professionals

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Housing and Urban Developing have developed a toolkit titled “Disaster Preparedness to Promote Community Resilience: Information and Tools for Homeless Service Providers and Disaster Professionals”. The toolkit provides a practical overview of challenges that may occur during disaster-caused disruptions and the impact of these challenges for people who experience homelessness. It also provides guidance for identifying and collaborating with partners to address disaster response and recovery needs of homeless community members and outlines strategies to engage in preparedness and minimize service disruption from a disaster.
