PHEP Section Update

August 16, 2017

In this update:

State/Local Team - LHD EPC Representation

DEPR is still accepting nominations for EPC representation on the quarterly State/Local Team meetings. The State/Local Team works to preserve, promote, and improve the level of emergency preparedness of Michigan’s populations, communities, and individuals. It does this by fostering collaboration among state and local public health and advising on activities that fall within the scope of the CDC PHEP Cooperative Agreement. The three available EPC seats include a primary and two alternates. Contact Mary Macqueen at macqueenm@michigan.gov to nominate an EPC to serve on the team by August 18, 2017.

Funding Opportunity for LHD Accreditation Preparation Support

With funding from the CDC’s Office for State, Tribal, Local, & Territorial Support, NACCHO has announced a funding opportunity for LHDs to engage in accreditation readiness activities. The 2017–2018 Accreditation Support Initiative (ASI) awards are intended to stimulate quality improvement and promote LHD readiness to seek voluntary national accreditation through the Public Health Accreditation Board.

Application requirements and full details about the ASI opportunity are provided in the Request for Proposals (RFP) and the Application Document. Applications, via the online submission form, are due by 5 PM ET on Wednesday, 8/30/17. As detailed in the RFP, NACCHO strongly encourages applicants to review its standard contract language prior to completing the application. Modifications to the terms will not be made for selected sites. The RFP and Application Document are available at www.naccho.org/fees.

NACCHO and CDC will host an optional webconference on Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT to walk through the RFP and application. Registration is available on the NACCHO website. Questions about this opportunity can be directed to asi@naccho.org.

Responder Safety and Health Planning Framework

For LHDs working to create or enhance Responder Safety and Health plans, the Emergency Responder Health Monitoring and Surveillance (ERHMS) framework may contain useful guidance. The ERHMS framework provides recommendations for protecting emergency responders during any emergency in any setting. The link below includes an overview of the ERMHS framework, online trainings, as well as additional resources that provide detailed suggestions in pre-deployment, deployment (including health monitoring of responders), and post-deployment phases of planning.

NACCHO Administrative Preparedness Toolkit

The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) has released its online Administrative Preparedness Toolkit. The toolkit includes guidance, resources, and templates to help health departments assess, evaluate, and implement their administrative preparedness capabilities. Resources in the toolkit were developed by NACCHO and local health departments as part of programs such as Project Public Health Ready and the Resources for Administrative Preparedness Implementation and Development (RAPID) initiative, with support from the CDC. To access the toolkit, login into the NACCHO Toolbox website and select “Administrative Preparedness Toolkit” from the “Refine by toolkits” drop-down menu.

LHD and Tribal Preparedness Partners Meeting

The LHD and Tribal Preparedness Partners meeting previously scheduled for April 2018 has been moved to June 5 - 6, 2018 at Treetops Resort in Gaylord, MI. Lodging will covered by DEPR. Registration information will be available in January 2018. A save-the-date flyer is linked below.
