BP1-17 LHD Work Plan – Deliverable 15.1

All non-CRI jurisdictions are required to build upon the BP5 MCM ORR results through the development and implementation of quarterly action plans to mitigate areas for improvement. Each jurisdiction should be developing an MCM Action Plan that outlines 3-5 action items and associated activities that it intends to build upon over the course the current budget period. Submission of the Quarter 1 Action Plan is due by September 29, 2017. Action Plan templates are available on the MIHAN in the following folder: Local Health > EPC GENERAL > PHEP BP1 (2017-2018). Contact Jason Smith at smithj20@michigan.gov with questions.

State/Local Medical Countermeasure Work Group

The DEPR SNS staff are gauging LHD’s interest in the creation of and participation in a work group to address emerging topics related to emergency medical countermeasures. Meetings would occur on a monthly basis, providing an opportunity to discuss a myriad of topics ranging in scope from program development to exercise design/development. EPCs interested in participating in the proposed State/Local Medical Countermeasure Work Group should contact Jason Smith at smithj20@michigan.gov.

LHD Staff Changes

Courtney Davis has left the EPC position at the Kalamazoo Health and Community Services Department. Lynne Norman (ldnorm@kalcounty.com) is filling in until a replacement is hired.

CMS Final Rule Interpretive Guidance

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the Emergency Preparedness Rule Interpretive Guidance. Because the individual regulations for each specific provider and supplier share a majority of standard provisions, CMS developed the Appendix Z- Emergency Preparedness for All Provider and Certified Supplier Types Interpretive Guidance to provide consistent guidance and survey procedures in a single document. Additional information can also be found on the CMS website under the Downloads section.

Healthy, Resilient, and Sustainable Communities after Disasters: A Discussion Toolkit

In 2013, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine convened an expert committee to develop an approach to disaster recovery that can mitigate the impacts of disasters on health and promote healthy communities.

The Healthy, Resilient, and Sustainable Communities after Disasters: A Discussion Toolkit takes that committee's conceptual framework and turns it into an operational guidance document. It is designed to ensure appropriate preparation for planning, hosting, and following up after a community meeting. It contains step-by-step instructions and tips including a sample agenda, document templates (invitation, sign-in sheet, notes, evaluation form), messaging for different sectors, a supplies and set-up checklist, detailed guidance for the facilitator, and participant worksheets and handouts.
