Council Approvals 

  • Ordinance amending Chapter 55 of the 1984 Detroit City Code, Traffic and Motor Vehicles 
    • This would instate a 5-day parking fine reduction.   Under this ordinance, verified Detroit residents who receive parking tickets for parking in a "No parking" zone or who are paying overstayed meter fees within FIVE days will pay $22.50 instead of $45.
    • Registration will begin on August 1, 2019. Residents can start receiving the discount beginning November 1, 2019

  • Ordinance to amend Chapter 22 of the 1984 Detroit City Code, Handling of Solid Waste and Prevention of Illegal Dumping. View a copy of the ordinance here
    • This amendment would raise illegal dumping fines to: 
      • Less than 5 cubic feet - $800
      • 5 to less than 10 cubic feet - $1500
      • 10 to less than 15 cubic feet - $2500
      • 15 or more cubic feet - $3500
  • 100% city funding for lighting at the following viaducts in District 6. Council Member Castañeda-López advocated for this during the the FY 2018-2019 budget season. 
    • Waterman Street, between Desmond and Stanton
    • Green Street, between Chatfield and Lane St 
    • Vernor Highway, between Casgrain and Dix Ave 

  • 100% state funding to St. Patrick Senior Center, Inc. to provide transportation options for individuals with disabilities, elderly adults and their assisted caregivers, and provide a flexible transportation service that allows for responsive same-day trip return scheduling. 

  • 100% state funding to People's Community Services of Metropolitan Detroit to provide specialized transportation services for senior citizens and disabled residents 

  • Emergency residential demolitions in District 6 at 5666 Wesson, 8854 Stoepel, 8022 Sarena, 8028 Sarena and 8040 Sarena 

Proposed Ordinance

  • Introduction of a proposed amendment to the Slavery Disclosures ordinance. Currently, the ordinance requires any contractor that wishes to enter into a contract with the City to disclose whether they have ever profited from the slave industry. The amendments, proposed by Council President Pro Tem Mary Sheffield and Council Member Castañeda-López, would require any contractor to also disclose any profits from prisons or inmate labor, as well as any profits from immigration detention facilities.

    • A public hearing on this ordinance will be held at the Budget, Finance, and Audit standing committee on July 17th at 1PM.
