Council Approvals

  • 2.7M in City funding to manage the capital improvements at the Joe Louis Arena Parking Garage

  • Creation of the Affordable Housing Taskforce by Council President Pro-Tem Sheffield. 

Public Hearing

  • [June 21] Public hearing over a proposed 5-day parking fine reduction. Under this ordinance, verified Detroit residents that pay meter parking and no parking tickets within 5 days will pay $22.50 instead of $45. 13th floor, 2 Woodward Ave (CAYMC), 10AM. 

Park Naming Ordinance

  • Council President Jones has been working with the General Services Department on a park naming or renaming ordinance. Do you have thoughts on this subject? Attend a Neighborhood and Community Services Standing Committee on June 20th at 10AM to make a public comment!

Vacant Lot Cutting Schedule - Phase 2 

There will be FOUR vacant lot cuts on city wide lots this year starting in May and ending sometime in October.The second vacant lot cuts in District 6 will start on June 10th. View the map below to see when they'll be cutting lots in your neighborhood!

If you have a specific lot in use for a garden or another project, please place a stake (at least 3 ft high) with fluorescent pink tape or paint near the top. This will alert contractors to avoid mowing the lot. Questions? Email ahipps@detroitmi.gov

Applications, Grants and Project Proposals

  • Applications for the Fall cohort of Techtown's Retail Boot Camp will close on June 17! Serious entrepreneurs can join this 10-week program to gain knowledge of how to open their own brick-and-mortar establishments in Detroit. 

  • The Detroit Justice Center has a request for projects around community land trusts. It seeks to assist three community supported, financially viable residential or mixed-use projects by providing legal and consulting services. Project submissions due by 5PM on June 31, 2019. 

  • Do you live in 48209, 48210, 48216 or 48217? You may be eligible to participate in an Asthma Pilot Program if you have children with asthma or breathing problems. Call 313-863-2427 for more information. 

Award Nominations 

  • The Detroit Free Press and Metropolitan Affairs Coalition (MAC) are seeking nominations for this year's Shining Light Regional Cooperation Awards, which honor individuals who are having an impact and making important contributions to regional cooperation, progress, and understanding.
