Downtown

Council Approvals

  • The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services awarded the City of Detroit $40,000 through the Local Health Opioid Response Grant. This funding will supplement existing opioid education and community outreach efforts.

Upcoming Council Items

  • The Public Health and Safety committee is currently considering legislation to reduce parking fines from $45 to $22.50 for Detroit residents who pay within 5 days.

  • City Council is currently re-evaluating the City's Neighborhood Enterprise Zone (NEZ) locations. Cities can designate up to 15% of their area as NEZ's, where eligible homeowners enjoy reduced property taxes. Council is determining how to reallocate zones to remove areas that are underused and designate new areas. Attached map shows some of the proposed new NEZ's.

Public Hearing

  • [June 3, 10AM, Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 13th floor] The Public Health and Safety Committee is holding a public hearing regarding the proposed Public Notification Ordinance, which would create additional transparency for the Detroit Department of Transportation by requiring that certain information is posted on their website, including information regarding performance data, fare information, and number of incident reports.

FCA Vote

City Council approved the FCA expansion in Detroit on Tuesday, May 21st during its Formal Session. View Council Member Castañeda-López's Facebook video to learn why she voted 'no' on certain items.

If you are interested in applying for or learning more about future FCA jobs, visit this website. The Detroit Employments Solutions Corporation (DESC) will host information sessions and trainings over the coming months to ensure that Detroiters have the information they need in order to apply for jobs once the application window opens up in the late summer/fall.
