Council Approvals

  • $500,000 in federal funding for a one-year contract to oversee the 0% Interest Home Repair Loan Program, including ensuring that all projects are completed timely, within scope, and within budget. 

  • District 6 demolition at 5640 Tireman

  • Resolution sponsored by Council President Pro-Tem Sheffield and Council Member Castañeda-López in support of the Green New Deal. Read the resolution here

Residential Parking Ordinance

The Residential parking ordinance was published May 1, so the effective date will be June 1, 2019. Read more about the ordinance here

Upcoming City Council Votes

There are a number of items coming before Council regarding the proposed Fiat Chrysler expansion project in District 4 over the coming weeks. Here’s what to expect over the next week:

  • Tuesday, May 7th (Formal Session at 10 AM)
    • Establishing an Industrial Development District (this is the first step in granting a tax abatement for the project)
    • Formally setting a public hearing for the re-zoning of land bounded by E. Warren, St. Jean, Kercheval, and Lillibridge and Beniteau.
  • Thursday, May 9th (Planning & Economic Development Committee at 10 AM)
    • Continued discussion on the Community Benefits Agreement
    • Public Hearing on the Industrial Development Certificate (tax abatement)
    • Public Hearing on the re-zoning mentioned above
  • Tuesday, May 14th (Formal Session at 10AM)
    • Voting on the tax abatement, re-zoning, and Community Benefits Agreement

Zone Detroit Updates 

  • The City Planning Commission is working on a zoning ordinance modernization and updating project called Zone Detroit. Stay up-to-date on this project by following its Facebook page! To learn more about this initiative, read this two-page summary about the project in ArabicBengaliEnglish and Spanish

  • Take a 5-minute survey to provide input about the city's current zoning ordinance, last updated in 2005. Please encourage youth ages 17 and under to complete the survey! The survey has also been prepared in ArabicBengali, and Spanish.

DDOT Fare Changes 

DDOT

DDOT fare changes went into effect on May 1, 2019!

See left for the new fare structure.

DDOT and SMART now have a unified payment structure called Dart. You will be able to use Dart passes on both SMART and DDOT buses. 

Reduced fare options will be available for seniors, people with disabilities, Medicare cardholders, and youth.

You will be able to purchase tickets using a new smartphone app (coming summer 2019) or at other locations in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Gordie Howe International Bridge Updates

The construction of the US Port of Entry will permanently close the following streets between South Street and Jefferson Avenue: Schroeder Street, Waterman Street, Rademacher Street, Reid Street, Crawford Street, Livernois Avenue, Holly Street, Beulow Court.
