New Funding
announced in blight removal efforts
Detroit’s demolition program received another huge boost when
the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) announced Wednesday that
it has authorized $88 million in new blight removal funding. This is the
largest single financial award in the history of the city’s blight removal
efforts and a tremendous display of confidence in Detroit’s demolition program.
The U.S. Department of Treasury has so far awarded more than
a quarter-billion dollars for Detroit’s blight removal efforts. As of today,
the city has taken down 9,156 dangerous and vacant buildings in neighborhoods
across the city. This new funding will allow Detroit to add another 6,000
vacant houses to the demolition list.

and one high school serving 2,000 students
- Clark Durant, co-chairman of the Academic subcommittee of the
Coalition for the Future of Detroit Schoolchildren, and co-founder and active
board member of the Cornerstone Schools, which operates three K-8 charter
schools, one charter high school, and one private K-12 school, serving more
than 2,800 students.
- Doug Ross, President of American Promise Schools, which operates
two K-8 schools and two high schools that serve more than 1,800 students.
Ross is a former State Senator, Michigan Commerce Director, and U.S.
Assistant Secretary of Labor.

organization serving more than 1,200 students across two K-8 and two high
