EGLE launches webpage focused on Marathon
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has launched a webpage focused on compliance and enforcement activities for Marathon facilities in Michigan.
A recent enforcement action with Marathon included a fine and two Supplemental Environmental Projects or SEPs. SEPs can include more long-term community projects, such as the air cooling and filtration project at the Mark Twain School for Scholars and the real-time air monitoring data website proposed by Marathon and approved by EGLE.
“We wanted a way to provide information about the progress of the projects in the community. This was a complicated part of our enforcement process, and we want to have as much transparency as possible,” said Air Quality Enforcement Specialist, Erin Moran. “Community members are interested in both SEPs Marathon is doing as well as their compliance status. This website will provide this information in one place.”
The EGLE Marathon website has detailed information about both the air cooling and filtration project and links to the real-time air monitoring data website as well as, background information, compliance status reports, and how to let EGLE know if you have any concerns about the Marathon facility.
To access the website directly, type Michigan.gov/EGLEMarathon into your internet browser. If you have comments or questions about the website, please contact Erin Moran at MoranE@Michigan.gov or 517-275-0883.
