FCA Jefferson North Assembly Plant air permit open for comment for second time due to revisions
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has started a second public comment period for a proposed air permit for FCA’s Jefferson North Assembly Plant until March 22, 2021. As part of the public comment, an informational session and public hearing will be held on March 16, 2021 to provide information and answer questions from the community as well as to take comments on the record.
After the first public comment period ended, FCA requested a change be made to its draft air permit, prompting a second public comment period. This change included:
- Allowing 12 months after installation of the proposed painting line for the average amount of pollutants, specifically volatile organic compounds, to decrease from the current 4.8 pounds per job to 4.4 pounds per job.
In addition to the change requested by FCA, EGLE has included further requirements:
- Updated conditions to some existing processes.
- Additional recordkeeping and reporting.
