Draft FY21 Funding Priorities for Watershed Projects
The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) anticipates that the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 Nonpoint Source (NPS) Program Request for Proposals (RFP) will be released in mid-July. Under this RFP, about $4.3 million in state and federal funding is expected to be available for nonpoint source control projects that implement priority recommendations in approved watershed management plans. The timeline, application and award processes will be similar to previous years. We strongly suggest that applicants consult with NPS staff as they work with partners and stakeholders to develop potential projects. To be eligible for implementation funding, watershed management plans not yet approved must have been submitted by February 14, 2020 and must be approved by EGLE on or before July 15, 2020.
Draft guidance documents are available on the Nonpoint Source Program website to facilitate project development and for planning purposes. This information is subject to change. Final information will be included in the full RFP scheduled for release on or about July 15, 2020. Draft documents include:
- Draft FY21 Funding Priorities
- Draft FY21 Schedule
Eligible applicants include nonprofits that are tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, local units of government (such as state agencies; county, city, township, and village entities; regional planning agencies; Conservation Districts), and Michigan colleges and universities. Applicants must also supply proof of a successful audit at the time of the full application.
Eligible watersheds are watersheds covered by a watershed management plan approved as meeting state and federal guidance.
Eligible activities are implementing priority recommendations to address nonpoint sources of pollution in critical or priority areas as designated in an approved watershed management plan.
