Inspiring champions to protect these places is important. The team at Michigan’s Coastal Management Program partnered with conservation leader Heart of the Lakes to reach out and engage a fresh generation of coastal champions through digital storytelling.

People shared their stories for the Power of Nature video series, introducing viewers to real Great Lakes people and places with dynamic, breathtaking visuals. The campaign gave people an opportunity to share their experiences and inspire others to act for the places they love.

The investment from Michigan’s Coastal Management Program to Heart of the Lakes created an initial set of stories. The project grabbed the attention of other organizations, and the Saginaw Bay Watershed Initiative Network jumped on to provide funding for more.

Heart of the Lakes said the project “communicates the importance of nature and natural resource protection that contributes to healthy, vibrant coasts in support of placemaking, tourism, business and talent attraction.”
