Dear
Colleagues:
Twenty-three
years ago, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD)
began a partnership with the Food Bank Council of Michigan to raise food and
funds through an annual Michigan Harvest Gathering. This partnership has
grown over the years, and MDARD has taken on the role as coordinator of the
State employees' campaign for the annual effort. This year, Tricia
Bizoukas at MDARD will be serving as the point person for the initiative, and
I’d like to thank Isidra Chavez and Kris Kokx within DTMB for providing the
department’s internal support.
I
have been impressed by the community support and camaraderie shown by DTMB
employees and employees from other state departments. I urge you once
again to take part in this worthy tradition. We are hoping to raise
$500,000 and collect 350,000 pounds of food in 2013.
This
23rd year of the Michigan Harvest Gathering State Employees' Campaign begins
Monday, October 14, and runs through Friday, October 25, 2013. Boxes for
collecting non-perishable food items and pledge cards for tax-deductible
monetary donations will be available at your work location. All food
donations go to local food banks and all funds are directly used to purchase
food items and pay for their transport.
During
the two-week drive, department coordinators all across the state will be
working to plan activities to help raise food and funds. Be on the
lookout for activities within DTMB, and have fun supporting this worthy cause.
If you have questions, please contact one of our DTMB coordinators or
Tricia Bizoukas at (517) 373-9726 or bizoukasp@michigan.gov.
Thank
you for your participation and contribution to the 2013 Michigan Harvest
Gathering.
Regards,
John
Nixon
