2021 Maps and Data Highlights

As we enter 2022, we’d like to share some of our maps and data highlights from the past year. In 2021, we shared 11 new interactive web maps and apps, 10 new story maps, and 43 new open data items, for a grand total of 64 new features shared on the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE)'s Maps and Data Portal! We are looking forward to sharing more maps and data with you in the coming year.

EGLE's Top 3: New Maps and Apps from 2021

1. EGLE Grants and Loans Dashboard - Fiscal Years 2019-2020 Update

Published in March 2021, this dashboard shows where grants, loans, and other funding was disbursed from EGLE to local municipalities and other entities in the Fiscal Years of 2019 and 2020.

 

 

2. Gelman Site of 1,4-Dioxane Contamination

Published in July 2021, this web map provides historic and current information related to the investigation and remediation of the 1,4-Dioxane groundwater contamination in Scio Township and the west part of the City of Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County.

3. EGLE District Boundaries and Office Locations

Published in September 2021, this web app displays all of EGLE's offices locations and district boundaries.

EGLE's Top 3: New Story Maps from 2021

1. Michigan COVID-19 Wastewater Surveillance Pilot Project

Published in April 2021, this story map details the collaborative efforts by labs, local health departments, universities, and wastewater utilities to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to support the public health response to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

 

 

2. Tobacco River Flow Restored

Published in March 2021, this story map describes how the Tobacco River's flow has been restored following the lowering of the Edenville Dam spillway.

3. Worrisome Ice Areas

Published in February 2021, this story map highlights where hazardous areas and dangerous ice conditions will occur due to the lowering of water levels on the Tobacco River behind the Edenville Dam spillway.

EGLE's Top 3: New Open Data from 2021

1. Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard Nonattainment Areas - 2015

Published in April 2021, this outlines the statewide nonattainment areas (areas considered to have air quality worse than the national standards) for the 2015 Ozone NAAQS as designated by the USEPA. This data is used in the Air Monitoring Sites web map

 

 

2. Primary Sulfur Dioxide National Ambient Air Quality Standard Nonattainment Areas – 2010

Published in April 2021, this data outlines the statewide nonattainment areas (areas considered to have air quality worse than the national standards) for the 2010 Primary Sulfur Dioxide NAAQS as designated by the USEPA. This data is used in the Air Monitoring Sites web map

3. EGLE District Boundaries

Published in September 2021, this data outlines the layer boundaries of EGLE's districts. This data is used in the EGLE District Boundaries and Office Locations web app

MI Statewide GIS Users Meetings: The Statewide GIS User Group provides quarterly networking and educational opportunities for GIS professionals across Michigan. The meetings are open to everyone from students through seasoned professionals and feature a range of technical and non-technical topics.
