Lansing, MI - The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development’s (MDARD) Pesticide and Plant Pest Management (PPPM) Division is reminding residents with verifiable medical conditions to submit their applications for the 2014 annual Pesticide Notification Registry.
The Pesticide Notification Registry enables individuals with verifiable medical conditions to be notified prior to a turf or ornamental pesticide application made on adjacent properties within a specified distance of their residence.
“Pesticide application firms use the registry to determine where individuals with verifiable medical conditions reside and notify them before applications are made on adjacent and other surrounding properties,” said Gina Alessandri, PPPM Division Director. “I encourage those with verifiable medical conditions to register.”
Pesticide Notification Registry applicants must submit an application and a physician’s certification form no later than February 1, 2014. The application and forms are available on MDARD’s website at www.michigan.gov/mdardpest . Residents can also request an application from MDARD’s Pesticide and Plant Pest Management Division, P.O. Box 30017, Lansing, Michigan 48909 or by calling 800-292-3939. The 2014 registry will be published in March, 2014.
MDARD is also reminding certified organic farmers to continue registering their organic farm sites in DriftWatch at www.driftwatch.org. Commercial certified applicators must also register in DriftWatch in order to automatically receive information regarding location of certified organic farms.
Questions regarding DriftWatch can be directed to Antonio Escobar, Michigan’s DriftWatch specialist, at 800-292-3939.
