In 2018, Michigan food and agricultural exports to South Korea totaled more than $120 million - a $50 million increase from 2017. The future of American food exports to the South Korean market is excellent for a wide variety of products including vegetables, fruits, dairy products, alcoholic beverages, confectioneries, and more. According to the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service, the U.S. was the leading exporter of food and agricultural products to South Korea with a 25% market share in 2017. South Korea relies heavily on imports to fulfill its food and agriculture needs due to its mountainous terrain and limited farmland, which is exclusively dedicated to rice production.
