Tribal Affiliation Data Collection: Phased Approach

The 2023 School State Aid Act included new data collection and submission requirements to support consultation between tribes, local educational agencies and the state. These requirements include the collection of program participation data for Title VI – Indian Education and Johnson-O’Malley programs and the collection of student and staff tribal affiliation data. To allow time for consultation with tribes, these new requirements are being phased in over the next few years.

Implementation will begin with collecting the new program participation data during the 2024-25 school year. LEAs that are not impacted by either a Title VI - Indian Education or a Johnson-O’Malley program will not need to make any adjustments to their existing data processes at this time. Outreach with additional information for districts impacted by a Title VI - Indian Education or Johnson-O’Malley program will occur later this spring to support the submission of those data during the 2024-25 school year.

Prior to the 2025-26 school year, further information will be provided to all LEAs to support the collection and submission of tribal affiliation data during that school year.
