Public Input Sought Regarding Additional Ann Arbor Dog Parks
The City of Ann Arbor is hosting a public meeting and online questionnaire to address the desire for additional dog parks, as identified in the current City of Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation Open Space Plan (http://www.a2gov.org/departments/Parks-Recreation/administrative/Pages/Park-Planning.aspx) an element of the City Master Plan.
These latest outreach efforts, along with a previous online survey and public meetings in August and September 2013, will help to ensure the Park Advisory Commission is responding to this need in an appropriate manner. During the earlier efforts, participants were asked where one or more dog parks could be located and what types of amenities should be considered for inclusion in new and existing dog parks. The goal for this questionnaire and public meeting is to establish the decision-making process and criteria for choosing dog park locations that is part of the Recommendations and Guidelines for Dog Park Selection, Design, Operations and Maintenance document. After the document is approved, public meetings for any specific proposed locations for a dog park will be held, and residents within a ¼-mile radius of the proposed locations will be notified by mail.
Online questionnaire
A questionnaire, currently available on A2 Open City Hall (http://www.a2gov.org/a2opencityhall), focuses on the portions of the Recommendations and Guidelines for Dog Park Selection, Design, Operations and Maintenance draft document that involve the decision-making process for locating new dog parks. Public input is welcome; the questionnaire closes Wednesday, March 4.
Thursday, March 5 public meeting
In addition to the questionnaire, feedback will be gathered at a public meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. in the basement conference room at Larcom City Hall (301 E. Huron St.). The public meeting will also focus on the criteria and decision-making process.
Questions about this initiative may be directed to Parks Planner Amy Kuras at akuras@a2gov.org or 734.794.6230 ext. 42590. Learn more about the city's current dog parks, at Olson and Swift Run parks, at http://www.a2gov.org/dogparks.
