TheRide plans transit service improvements for fall

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority (TheRide) will implement transit service improvements on selected bus routes effective on Sunday, August 28. Maps and schedules for routes affected by service changes can be found here.

The addition of two trips on Route 2C, one to downtown Ann Arbor in the afternoon and a trip from the Central Campus Transit Center at 7:14 p.m., are designed to improve on time performance. A new trip will also be added to Route 4 leaving the Blake Transit Center at 6:00 p.m. to relieve overcrowding on existing trips.

To improve on-time performance on Route 4, buses will no longer divert from Washtenaw Avenue to the bus stop on Manchester. An improved bus stop will be served on Washtenaw west of Sheridan.

Timepoint changes and several other adjustments will be made to Routes 1, 2, 4, 7, 13, 16, 33 and the A2 Express routes from Chelsea and Canton to Ann Arbor.

To better serve Eastern Michigan University, a new route, the Route 34 West Campus Shuttle, will begin service between the Rynearson Park & Ride Lot on Hewitt and central campus stops at Bowen Field House, Halle Library and the Towers residence hall complex. EMU will pay the fare for all riders on Route 34. The Canton A2 Express bus stop will be moving from Independence Park to the Meijer store lot at Ford and Canton Center roads.

Routes 2, 3, 4, 33 and 36 will return to their fall-winter schedules adding in selected trips that do not operate during the summer months.

TheRide is also planning changes to the designations of route numbers on Routes 5, 6, 8 and 18 to use the letters A, B and C to indicate variations in the patterns of the routes.

Full details on the service changes are available here and will also be available in the Fall 2011 Ride Guide.
