Memorial Day Weekend: Outdoor Pools Open Tomorrow and More!

Ann Arbor Parks and Recreation is open Memorial Day weekend! Here’s a summary of what’s happening in the parks on the holiday weekend …
• Canoe liveries — Gallup and Argo canoe liveries extended hours of 9 a.m.–8 p.m. begin Saturday, May 25. Find details about boat rentals, river trips and more on our website.
• Outdoor pools — City parks staff is busy preparing Buhr, Fuller and Veterans Memorial park pools for opening day, Saturday, May 25. Go online for daily rates or purchase a pool season pass, which can be used at all three pools for all public swim times and tot splashes. Pool season passes may be purchased or renewed at all of the pools, the Parks and Recreation Customer Service Center (Cobblestone Farm, 2781 Packard Rd.), or here online. Purchase a 2019 summer pool pass by Memorial Day (valid through Sept. 2) and receive a discount! Resident season passes for a family are $240 preseason and $265 regular season.
• Golf courses — The Easter eggs are back! When golfers make an online tee time this Memorial Day weekend, they will notice the golf courses’ Easter egg special promotion is back. Leslie Park Golf Course (LPGC) will have a dozen “egg-stra” special tee times with a bonus rate of $25 for 18 holes of golf with a cart and $20 at Huron Hills Golf Course (HHGC).

On Monday, May 27 the weekday morning special continues at both courses all day: LPGC, $36 adults; $25 seniors to play 18 holes with cart; and HHGC, $29 adults, $22 seniors to play 18 holes with cart. Additionally, we will be offering "accelerated twilight” pricing Friday-Monday at both courses starting daily at 1 p.m. Play as much golf as you want for $25 at Leslie Park and $22 at Huron Hills.
• Farmers Market — Saturday, May 25, the Ann Arbor Farmers Market is open 7 a.m.–3 p.m. for holiday weekend picnic needs and more! We have spring veggies like asparagus and rhubarb, as well as flowers and bedding plants for your garden, sourdough bread, prepared food, cheese, meat, croissants, fish and more. Free parking on Wednesdays in the market lot. Then on Sunday, May 26, 10 a.m.–4 p.m., it's all about flowers and plants at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market. Flower day combines with the artisan market to offer specials and a large selection of plants. Neighborhood businesses will host flower-themed activities; and the day also includes food trucks, live music, backyard beekeeping tips, gardening advice, kids activities and so much more. Natural Area Preservation Stewardship Workday
Saturday, May 25, Bluffs Nature Area,1-4 p.m. Join us to keep the native species thriving by removing invasive plants. Meet in the parking lot off Main Street, just north of Lake Shore Drive. All participants must complete a release form, and all minors should be accompanied by a guardian. Tools, snacks, and know-how provided.
Become a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) with GIVE 365
Our summer day camps are looking for highly motivated and kid-friendly teens ages 14-17 to serve as counselors in training (CIT). Help our day camp coordinators provide a high quality, fun and safe outdoor experience for our day campers. This wonderful opportunity is for teens who want to further develop their leadership and communication skills as well as gain experience in planning and instructing activities for young children. We are looking for a minimum of a week-long commitment at one of our three day camps: Buhr, Fuller, or Gallup. Orientation is Thursday, May 30, 6-8 p.m. at Fuller Park Pool, 1519 Fuller Rd. Nature Walk with the Ann Arbor District Library (AADL) and NAP
Thursday, May 30, Bird Hills Nature Area, 6-7:30 p.m. The largest park in Ann Arbor contains steep hills created by glaciers and erosion. Join us for a family friendly nature walk through these woods to look for native plants and wildlife. Meet at the Bird Road entrance to the park. Additional parking available at the Barton Dam parking lot across Huron River Drive. Wear comfortable clothes and bring water if desired. Some of AADL’s science tools will be available for use during the walk!

Ann Arbor Rowing Club (AARC) Learn to Row Program (LTR) Join the AARC for its learn to row program! The LTR classes are designed for adults of all ages and abilities with no previous rowing experience. Many AARC club members learned to row in one of our classes. Classes are scheduled throughout the summer and prepare rowers for AARC’s Technical Rowing program. Requirements: Minimum age (must be 16 or older). Please sign a rowing waiver, register and pay here.
