Protecting Public Gathering Sites and Special Events
IED Threat Awareness
June 14 (Augusta), 17 (Bangor) and 27 (Portland), 2016

In partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Infrastructure Protection (IP) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Field Intelligence Division (FID), the Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is sponsoring three inter-agency training workshops across Maine.

  • Security Assistance for Public Gatherings: To mitigate risk and enhance the security and resilience of public gathering sites and special events, partnerships between the private sector and the public sector are critical. DHS Protective Security Advisors (PSAs) share information and provide training and technical assistance to help government partners, infrastructure owners and operators, and special event organizers safeguard public gathering sites and protect human life and critical infrastructure. Such activity includes security and resilience assessments of critical infrastructure; onsite support at major events, such as the Super Bowl; and training and technical assistance to infrastructure owners and operators, community groups, and faith-based organizations.

  • Threat Awareness and IED Threat Mitigation: The TSA Office of Intelligence and Analysis (OIA), Field Intelligence Division conducts intelligence activity and operations to provide indications and warning support and intelligence analysis on threat information that directly affects multi-modal transportation systems and infrastructure. Field Intelligence Officers (FIO) provide multi-modal intelligence support to DHS partners, and act as primary TSA liaison for intelligence sharing with TSA stakeholders, security partners, and law enforcement that support TSA operations. The workshop will cover current threats, explosive awareness, and IED threat mitigation and countermeasures.
Target Audience: Federal, Military, State, Municipal, Tribal and Private Sector security, law enforcement, emergency responders, facility managers, and crisis managers that may potentially support Maine’s summer cruise ship season, festivals, concert series, or any other large public mass gatherings or events.

Course Agenda, Dates/Locations: The program will be held on three separate locations/dates. Individuals may elect to attend any of the three venues to accommodate your own availability or location. Breakfast refreshments will be provided, but lunch will be on your own. Travel expenses will not be reimbursed for this one-day workshop.
