FEMA has released a new [online, independent study course](http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is265.asp)">http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is265.asp) designed for emergency managers who assist in teaching FEMA courses.

MEMA also recommends this course for any emergency manager who may need to make public presentations.

###Course Description

The purpose of this 90-minute course is to prepare the participant to assist with State-delivered emergency management training. This course provides a foundation from which participants can develop or enhance their instructional delivery skills within a classroom setting. This course is not designed to teach how to design training. Rather, the focus of this course is how to present an existing lesson plan or training materials.

###Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, the participant will be able to:

1. List the qualities of effective performance-based training. 2. Describe the fundamental principles of adults learning. 3. Identify the preparation steps for conducting a training session. 4. Describe the quality of effective presenters. 5. Distinguish between presentation and facilitation. 6. Describe how interpersonal skills are applied in a training setting. 7. Identify the techniques used to manage classroom interactions. 8. Describe how to assess training and make continuous improvements. 9. Demonstrate the ability to present a lesson plan.

###Primary Audience

Members of Federal, State, tribal, or local training teams. Recommended for members of state and local emergency management teams who assist in the teaching of FEMA- or state-developed classroom training.

###Course Length

The overall length of the course will vary for each individual. IS-265 takes approximately 90 minutes to complete.

EMI awards 0.2 CEUs for completion of this course.
