I am pleased to announce that I have been appointed to the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (IF&W) Committee in the Maine State Legislature. This committee plays a vital role in overseeing the management and conservation of our natural resources, including hunting, fishing, trapping, and outdoor recreation. As your representative, I am committed to ensuring Maine’s wildlife and outdoor heritage are preserved while also supporting responsible access to these resources. I will work to promote policies that enhance the safety of our sportsmen and women, support local guides and businesses, and protect our fisheries and wildlife for future generations. Whether it's improving hunter safety, managing fish hatcheries, or addressing the needs of recreational users like ATV and snowmobile enthusiasts, I look forward to working on solutions that balance conservation with Maine’s outdoor traditions.

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps qualified homeowners and renters pay for their heating costs. Benefits include help paying for fuel and emergency fuel delivery. If you are eligible for HEAP, you can also qualify for energy-related repairs. Households are encouraged to apply for HEAP as soon as possible. The application process involves both an application and an interview, to help determine eligibility and the level of benefit. The amount of benefit eligible households receive varies depending on household size, income, and other factors.
HEAP Program guidelines are based on the maximum gross household income on the number of people per household. For households with more than 10 people, contact your community Action Agency for eligibility guidelines. By clicking here you can locate the information for your local Community Action Agency as well as apply online and view tips on how to prepare ahead of your HEAP appointment. I urge those who are eligible to apply for the HEAP program in Maine. This vital program helps families struggling with heating costs, ensuring that no one has to choose between staying warm and meeting other essential needs.

On January 14, 2025 Governor Mills, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Conservation, & Forestry (DACF) and the Maine Department of Education (DOE) proclaimed 2025 “The Year of Youth in Agriculture” for the State of Maine. This proclamation will provide opportunities to spotlight and elevate young adult voices in agriculture. Throughout the year there will be opportunities to participate in youth panels, highlight community involvement, and engage in Agriculture day here at the State House on March 18.
This will serve as a crucial step in educating our youth on the role agriculture plays in Maine’s economy and way of life. By focusing and highlighting our young people in Agriculture, we are ensuring that the next generation understands the vital connections between farming, food production, and our local economy.
