How to Stay Prepared

It is important to stay vigilant and prepare the best you can for upcoming storms.  According to the Maine Emergency Management Agency, residents should plan for three to seven days of supplies at home.  If you have to evacuate, it is suggested you have a “Grab-N-Go” bag ready to go with food, water, and various necessities, like a flashlight, first aid kit, personal items, and medications.

As the temperature drops, and power outages are a possibility, you can let water trickle at night from a faucet, and open cabinet doors to allow more heat to flow to the pipes in hopes of preventing frozen pipes from bursting.  During winter weather storms, try to stay off the roads.  However, if there is an emergency, make sure your car has jumper cables, sand, a flashlight, warm clothes, blankets, bottled water, non-perishable snacks, and a full tank of gas.

State of Civil Emergency for Coastal Counties Impacted by Flooding

Governor Mills announced last week that she has declared a State of Civil Emergency for all of Maine’s coastal counties.  The eight counties – Cumberland, Hancock, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Waldo, Washington, and York – were significantly impacted by flooding and infrastructure damage caused by the severe rain, wind, and snow storm that recently battered the State.  This announcement comes after House Republican Leader Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham sent a letter to the Governor on behalf of coastal Knox and Washington Counties requesting assistance.
