The Retail Association of Maine and the Maine Grocers and Food Producers Association established a special fund to offer grants to small businesses who were impacted by the December 18th storm.  Grants are expected to range from $2,500 to $10,000 to help businesses recover.  Applications are available from January 4, 2024 through January 31, 2024. Mainers recently experienced a series of dangerous storms with unusually high winds and rain causing damage to our power lines as well as tree damage to homes and property. Being prepared and ready for potential outages and flooding for future storms is vital. The State of Maine offers a subscription service for storm warnings, bulletins, and other updates. How to Stay Prepared

It is important to stay vigilant and prepare the best you can for upcoming storms. According to the Maine Emergency Management Agency residents should plan for 3 to 7 days of supplies at home. If you have to evacuate, it is suggested you have a “Grab-N-Go” bag ready to go with food, water, and various necessities like a flashlight, first aid kit, personal items, and medications.

As the temperature drops, and power outages are a possibility you can let water trickle at night from a faucet, and open cabinet doors to allow more heat to flow to the pipes in hopes of preventing frozen pipes from bursting. During winter weather storms, try to stay off the roads. However, if there is an emergency make sure your car has jumper cables, sand, a flashlight, warm clothes, blankets, bottled water, non-perishable snacks, and a full tank of gas.

See If You Have What It Takes to Become a Toboggan Champion

The U.S. National Toboggan Championship has been held in Camden Maine for more than 30 years. The event typically takes place during the first week of February.

Interested competitors are invited to form a team and design a sled before they race down the toboggan track at the Camden Snow Bowl. Teams of two, three, and four people are able to compete in hopes of becoming the next national champions in this famed wintertime sport.
