State of Maine Unclaimed Property
Each and every year, tens of millions of dollars go unclaimed by Maine residents. These financial assets are turned over by thousands of national and local businesses and organizations. The Office of the Maine State Treasurer holds these assets, free of charge, until claimed by the owner or heir. Please use this Web site to search your name, your business, and the name of your friends and family.
About Unclaimed Property
The Maine State Treasurer manages Maine’s unclaimed property program. Unclaimed property consists of money and other financial assets that are considered lost or abandoned when an owner cannot be located after a specified period of time of inactivity. It includes items, such as bank accounts, uncashed checks, life insurance policies, unpaid wages, stocks and dividends, refunds, and safe deposit box contents. Unclaimed property does not include real estate, animals, or vehicles.
Applications available for 2022 Maine Government Summer Internship Program
The Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center is now accepting applications for the 2022 Maine Government Summer Internship Program. The Program connects students with paid, full-time positions with town and city governments, as well as various State agencies. Internships last for 12 weeks, from May 31 - August 19. Students of all majors can apply. Job areas include education, engineering, environment, conservation, law, data analysis, finance, economics, and communications.
To qualify for the Program, students must be either a Maine resident or attending a college or university in the State, and be at least in the midst of completing their second year of college. Most internships will be based in the Augusta area, but a select number will be offered in other locations. Previous internship opportunities have been available in other locations across Maine.
The Program will offer more than 40 internships this year. Students apply to the Program when supervisors request interns. The Program selection committee then evaluates students for available positions based on their skills and interests.
Students interested in the Program must apply online by March 1. Application materials include a cover letter, résumé, and transcript. For more information about the Program, visit the policy center Web site.

Finding help for complex needs like shelter, substance use, mental health, or food access can be hard for many Mainers. Fortunately, there is a Maine-based resource that can help.
In addition to helping Mainers connect to the spectrum of health and human services, 211 continues its involvement in specific initiatives, including Maine’s Opiate Helpline to provide confidential referrals to treatment options; fielding questions about prevention, treatment, and mitigation of brown tail moth caterpillars and moths; answering the Maine Problem Gambling Helpline; and co-hosting the first Maine Virtual-Veterans Experience Action Center (V-VEAC) with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services, and other partners.
