Extended State Income Tax Payment Deadline to July 15, 2020
The deadline for Maine income tax payments has been extended from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020. The change aligns with the Federal government’s recent extension of the Federal tax filing deadline to July 15, 2020.
This includes any final and estimated Maine income tax payments due by April 15, 2020.  Any failure-to-pay penalties and interest will be abated for the period of April 16, 2020, through July 15, 2020.
The extended filing deadline for Maine income tax returns is automatically tied to any federal extension. Therefore, the filing deadline of April 15, 2020, for 2019 Maine income tax returns, is automatically extended to July 15, 2020. This includes Form 1040ME (Maine Individual Income Tax Return), Form 1041ME (Maine Income Tax Return for Estates and Trusts), and Form 1120ME (Maine Corporate Income Tax Return).
Sales tax and payroll payments will continue as normal. For questions about Maine income tax, contact Maine Revenue Services (MRS) at (207) 626-8475 or visit the MRS website at www.maine.gov/revenue.
Extended Boating Registration Renewal Period
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will allow boaters to operate without a current 2020 registration and milfoil sticker until April 30, 2020. Boat registrations normally expire at the end of each calendar year.
The Department is providing more time and some additional methods for you to apply for a new boat registration or renew an expired one. The easiest way to renew your boat registration is online at mefishwildlife.com, but not all towns have signed up with the state’s internet vendor, InforME, to do registrations.
Here are a few suggestions from the Department to help you get your boat registered for the 2020 season.
  • First time boat registrations cannot be completed online, they must be done at the town office so the town can collect sales, and excise tax. Registrants should call their town office to see if they are open, and possibly register their boat with the town office through the postal system.
  • If you cannot register your boat online or at the town office, MDIFW will work with you to register your boat.
  • If you just purchased a new boat from a dealer, you should have a temporary registration that is good for 20 days
The Department is looking for additional ways to assist boaters with registrations during the civil state of emergency. For the most up to date information please contact MDIFW at 207-287-8000.
Inland Waters Fishing License Requirement Suspended
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has been directed to open all inland waters for fishing and to waive the requirement that anglers need a recreational fishing license to fish the inland waters of Maine. The order, which is effectively immediately, will run through April 30 and is intended to encourage Maine people to enjoy the outdoors as we confront the challenges associated with COVID-19.
Maine has over 6,000 lakes and ponds, and over 32,000 miles of rivers and streams. With many people home and without many of their normal structured activities, this is a great time to get outside and enjoy Maine’s inland waters.
Any person (except those whose license has been suspended or revoked) may fish without a license through April 30, 2020. This change does not apply to activities which require a commercial freshwater fishing license or permit.
Also effective immediately, all inland waters that traditionally open to open water fishing on April 1 will now be open to open water fishing. This change does not open any body of water to ice fishing that is currently closed to ice fishing. All other tackle, length and bag limits and special regulations still apply.
If you are fishing from a boat, the Maine Warden Service is urging boaters to wear their lifejackets. Prolonged immersion in cold water can kill, and wearing a life jacket can greatly increase your survival chances if you are in the water unexpectedly.

Anglers also have a new tool that makes it quick and easy to find out the fishing regulations on any of Maine’s inland waters. Maine’s Fishing Laws Online Angling Tool (FLOAT), is an online map-based tool that can be accessed from your computer or your smartphone, giving you access to fishing regulations for all your favorite fishing waters.
Wondering where to go? Check out the improved Maine fishing guide at https://www.maine.gov/ifw/fishing-boating/fishing/fishing-resources/maine-fishing-guide/index.html. This statewide guide features the top fishing destinations in the state, broken down by species, tips on how to catch various species, and even provides advice on how to fish with children. You can even use the Department’s Google Earth data layers on your desktop to select your next fishing destination.
Online registration system for public health, healthcare and emergency response volunteers for the State of Maine
Maine Responds is a partnership that integrates local, regional, and statewide volunteer resources to assist our public health and healthcare systems. It is part of a national initiative to train, coordinate, and mobilize volunteers during an emergency. Maine Responds coordinates verified, pre-credentialed public health, healthcare and emergency response volunteers into a single database that can coordinate the need for volunteers across county, regional, and state lines if needed.
Registering as a Maine Responds volunteer will help ensure that people affected by a disaster will receive the public health and medical care they need. Registration is the first step in meeting this urgent need within Maine and the nation.
This site allows you to register as willing to provide services during a disaster or emergency situation. The registration system will collect basic information about you and your professional skills.
PLEASE CLICK HERE to begin the registration process. If you have already completed the registration process or wish to return to an in-progress registration, please sign-in using the log in area on this page.
