Lubec Community Outreach Center (LCOC) Senior Citizens Dinner 

LCOC's annual seniors and veterans holiday meal is Saturday, December 14, at noon.  Doors open at 11 at the legion hall on Rt. 189.

Join community members for fun, food, and holiday festivities🎅🤶.

Thanks to the members of the legions, the Masons, and the Woman's Club for the help each year!  Hope to see you there!

Volunteers Needed

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension 4-H, in Washington County, is looking for adults who have a talent or interest they are willing to share with young people.

SPIN clubs consist of four to eight youth ages 9-18 who learn about a specific topic of interest, such as nature, woodworking, robotics, photography, gardening, math, or beekeeping.

A 4-H SPIN club meets for six sessions, each lasting one to two hours.  Meeting dates, times, and locations are set by the volunteer.

"Boot Camp" for Veterans 

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering a "Boot Camp" for market gardeners and farmers.

Boots - 2- Bushels is a FREE course for military veterans interested in growing and selling their own farm produce.

Participants who attend all classes and participate in the growing program will earn a certificate of completion and letter of recommendation.

Space is limited.  Preference will be given to participants who are veterans or veteran family members and who can commit to the entire 30-week program (all 10 classes, plus field work during the growing season).

All classes will be taught by University of Maine Cooperative Extension and Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association subject matter experts.

  •     February 24:  Vegetable Production (leaf, cucurbit, and nightshades)

Eastport Festival of Trees 

Eastport Arts Center’s 10th Annual Festival of Trees, a festive silent auction, will be held Saturday, December 14, from 4:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

This year, the Festival’s ‘forest’ of trees include decorating schemes to appeal to oenophiles, bookworms, Zentangle enthusiasts, art lovers, rock hounds, foodies, fabric art creators, aficionados of jewelry, dog families, and globe-trotters.

Confirmed participants include these returning decorators:  Cathy Moroz and Samra Kusebi; Catherine Lee; Diana Boone; Seaside Stones; Susan Weaver and Kris Smith; Peavey Memorial Library; the French Club; Kathy Lewis; Cynthia Morse; Nikki Fox; Robin Farrin; Jeanne and Sadi Katkavich; Georgie Kendall; Jana Sutherland; David Oja; the Little Water Street Gang; and Quoddy Bay Lobster.  Newcomers Diana Boone, Cathy Adelman, Nikki Fox, Donna Finks, Joan Lowden, Robin MacDonald, Sandy Swanson and Eastport’s Knitting Group (Mary Anderson, Jeanne Peacock, Ruth Wiens, Linda Courtney, Kathy Lewis, Paula DeFilippo, Sandy Swanson, and Cynthia Morse) are gratefully welcomed to the fold.

“Come for the fun, hear some delightful music, enjoy tasty snacks, and share great camaraderie while bidding on beautiful and creative 24-inch table top trees,” said event organizer Marged Higginson.  “The tree will brighten your home, as well as keep the Arts Center lit up and lively this winter.”
