STEP 1: REVIEW REQUIREMENTS FOR ENROLLED AND NON-ENROLLED PROVIDERS

Already Enrolled with MIP?

If you are an enrolled provider, the process will be similar to what you are used to.

Starting July 1:

  • Providers may order state-supplied vaccine for adults ages 19 to 64 who are uninsured, underinsured, privately insured, or on MaineCare. State-supplied vaccines for adults are for Maine residents only.
  • Providers may continue to administer privately purchased adult vaccine currently in their inventory until it has been depleted.
    • There is a grace period in which providers may continue billing insurers for privately purchased vaccine until existing inventory is exhausted.
  • Providers do not need to maintain separate inventory for each age group between 0 to 64 years. A box of vaccine may be used across all ages if the vaccine is indicated for the patient’s age and administered according to current recommendations. Any state-supplied inventory ordered prior to July 1 can also be used for adults.
  • Please do not overorder. We recommend that providers keep a 6-week vaccine inventory on hand. Do not order all adult vaccine presentations on July 1 if you have existing vaccine inventory remaining.
    • We expect this transition will happen over several months. Please consider each vaccine individually to maintain an adequate 6-week supply.
    • When placing future orders, please consider the number of patients 0 to 64 years of age when calculating your 6-week vaccine inventory needs.

Not Currently Enrolled?

If your site is not enrolled with MIP, you must enroll before vaccine can be ordered.

To get started:

  • Email MIP to begin the enrollment process: ImmunizeME.DHHS@maine.gov
  • Complete and return all enrollment documents, as well as completion of the required educational training. Enrollment documents will be provided once enrollment request has been made.
  • Once enrollment documents are received, MIP staff will contact you to schedule an enrollment visit, which may be done in person or virtually.
  • The enrollment visit includes a review of program requirements, vaccine storage and handling, digital data loggers, and an overview of the program and resources Please plan to set aside 90 minutes.
  • The ImmPact team will help you complete your provider agreement and grant access to the Immunization Information System (IIS).
  • Once enrolled, providers may begin ordering vaccine on or after July 1.

STEP 2: REVIEW ADULT VACCINE ELIGIBILITY

  • Beginning July 1, state-supplied vaccine may be administered to adults ages 19 to 64 who are:
    • Underinsured/Uninsured
    • Privately insured
    • Enrolled in MaineCare
    • On Medicare (19-64): ONLY for vaccines NOT covered by Medicare
  • Adults aged 65 years and older are NOT eligible for state-supplied vaccine through this program.

STEP 3: PROVIDER INVENTORY TRANSITION

  • State-supplied pediatric and adult vaccinations do not need to be separated in storage units.
  • One box of vaccine may be used for eligible pediatric and adult patients.
    • Give to any eligible patient if age indicated for the vaccine.
  • Rotate by expiration dates.
  • All state inventory on hand July 1 can be used for any patient 0 to 64, regardless of the original ordering intent.
  • Providers can continue to administer and bill private stock until inventory is gone.
  • Providers should NOT order adult vaccine on July 1 if they have adequate private inventory or sufficient state supply.
  • Transition to fully state-supplied vaccine is expected to last several months.

STEP 4: ORDERING OPENS JULY 1

Beginning July 1, enrolled providers may begin placing adult vaccine orders through ImmPact.

STEP 5: REVIEW ADMINISTRATION FEE REQUIREMENTS

  • State-supplied vaccine is provided at no cost to enrolled health care providers for administration to eligible patients.
  • Administration fee breakdown for patients 0 to 64 years:
    • Uninsured/Underinsured: Providers may charge a maximum of $21.58 per vaccine administration.
    • Privately insured patients: Providers may charge a administration fee per vaccine administration.
  • Patients may not be denied vaccination if they are unable to pay that fee.

We look forward to working with you as we transition to our expanded program. Thank you for your continued dedication to protect all Mainers against vaccine preventable disease.
