Subject: Maine's Universal Immunization Program Expansion to Include Adults

Dear Healthcare Provider,
Starting July 1, 2026, Maine’s Universal Immunization Program will expand vaccine access to all adults 19-64 years, including those who are underinsured, uninsured, or enrolled in MaineCare. A universal immunization program will provide many benefits to both healthcare providers and patients.
Benefits for providers:

Ability to order all recommended vaccines through the Maine Immunization Program, regardless of patient population

Accessing all recommended adult vaccines at no cost

Using a single, streamlined supply of vaccine for both childhood and adult vaccinations

Increasing vaccine access points

Removing financial barriers

Increasing vaccination rates for the community
As we work through implementation, we are beginning outreach to providers and health systems to share information about the program, anticipated timelines and how onboarding will work. This packet will provide an overview of information to know now and what to expect in the coming months.
Our onboarding process will follow a tiered approach, starting with Maine’s largest health systems, followed by independent provider offices and pharmacies.
