Date: December 8, 2025

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) met on December 4–5, 2025, to vote on discontinuing its recommendation for the Hepatitis B birth dose and completion of the three-dose series. In response, the Maine Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued the following statement:

"The Maine CDC continues to recommend the hepatitis B birth dose and completion of the three-dose series, in line with American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The science supports timely vaccination as a vital public health measure, ensuring that all infants receive immediate protection, which is a critical safety net essential to protecting the health of our youngest and most vulnerable population. As has been the routine practice since 1991, the hepatitis B birth dose offers a proven, safe, and dependable layer of protection – not only against undetected maternal infections, but also against potential exposure from caregivers or household members with undiagnosed hepatitis B."
