Apologies for any cross-posting; MEWARN, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and the Maine Drinking Water Program are simultaneously sending out this important message.

First, a high-five to all of you for continuing to provide critical water and/or wastewater services 24/7 while also preparing for and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our hats are off to you.

The Maine Water and Wastewater Agency Response Network (MEWARN), Department of Environmental Protection (MEDEP), the Drinking Water Program (MEDWP), and other organizations are working through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA Region 1), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Maine Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to secure and distribute cloth face covers and potentially other PPE if and when they become available. The cloth face covers are intended for all frontline water and wastewater personnel throughout the state, including administrative staff. MEWARN membership is NOT a requirement.

We recently received a shipment of cloth face coverings and are beginning allocation and delivery planning to points statewide for distribution to water and wastewater utilities. We have developed a questionnaire (please click on the link below) to gather information needed to expedite this process. We will also use the information from this survey to attempt to secure additional PPE (gloves, etc.) for distribution if it becomes available through the same or other channels. Please fill in and submit the accompanying questionnaire by next Monday, May 11. Each water and/or wastewater system should only submit the questionnaire once. Systems not responding to the questionnaire will likely receive cloth face coverings and other PPE although there may be delays. Thank you for your assistance with this.
