AUGUSTA—Gov. Paul LePage has appointed Kevin Healey of
Greene, the current vice president of human resources for St. Mary’s Health
System in Lewiston, Maine, to serve as the vice chair of the State Workforce
Investment Board (SWIB).
The SWIB leads, advises and manages the effort to create a
world-class workforce development system in Maine. The SWIB focuses on the big
picture, setting a tone of collaboration and educating policy makers and the
public. It makes recommendations to the
Governor and legislature and identifies jobs in demand in the current and
future workforces..
Members and officers of the SWIB are appointed by the
Governor and represent the many facets of workforce development—employers, public
education, higher education, labor, economic development, youth activities,
employment and training, and the Legislature. Membership must reflect a 51
percent majority of businesses. The SWIB meets on a regular basis and the
public is encouraged to attend the meetings.
Fred Webber, chairman of the SWIB is “delighted that Kevin
has agreed to serve as vice chairman. His background in human resources and
management will serve the board and Mainers well.” Webber added, “Kevin, like
his fellow board members, wants to improve training and retraining programs
for those who are seeking meaningful employment. The board's
mission is critically important, and Kevin's dedication to its goals will
pave the way for reforms that are being recommended.”
Healey stated, “I’m pleased to step up to serve as the SWIB
vice chair, supporting Chairman Webber and the entire board as we work to
improve the Maine Workforce.” In his
position with St. Mary’s health system, he is responsible for all aspects of
Human Resources management for both St. Mary’s Health system and St. Joseph’s
hospital. His areas of responsibility also include employee safety, workers
compensation, interpreter services, occupational health, employee
education/training and volunteer services.
Immediately prior to his service at St. Mary’s, Healey
worked for 15 years at UNUM Corporation in Portland, Maine, serving as a human
resources division director and as the executive director of the UNUM
Foundation. Prior to UNUM he was employed as a human resources professional in
the dairy and food-manufacturing sector.
Healey is a current and past member of numerous Maine
non-profit boards. He is a 1975 graduate of North Central College in
Naperville, Illinois, with a BA in Business Administration and holds certifications
as a senior professional in human resources and as a certified compensation professional.
