The Maine Department of Labor is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Dumont Rabinowitz as the department’s director of communication. In this capacity, Rabinowitz will ensure that the public is made aware of the services the department provides to Maine’s employers and workers as well as serve as the department’s liaison with the media.
“We are pleased to have Julie Rabinowitz join our team,” said Commissioner of Labor Robert Winglass. “She brings skills and experience that will help the Labor Department realize its mission and serve the people of Maine.”
Rabinowitz holds a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and undergraduate degrees in Communication Arts (Radio/TV/Film) and History from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She has taught communication courses at several colleges in North Carolina and Maine including Bates, Colby, and the University of Southern Maine. Her academic interests focus on public policy argument.
In addition to her academic credentials, Rabinowitz has served as executive staff, board member, and as a consultant for numerous non-profits in Maine and beyond, handling both internal and external communications as well as developing and implementing strategic plans. She has also worked for both federal and state agencies.
“I’m excited to join the Department of Labor and help create an environment that strengthens Maine’s economy,” said Rabinowitz. “I look forward to working with Commissioner Winglass and his staff to help employers connect with Mainers who need good jobs as well as help employers learn about the services the DOL provides that can help them be more competitive in this challenging economy.”
Rabinowitz’s position is effectively immediately. The mission of the Maine Department of Labor is to promote the safety and economic well being of all individuals and businesses in Maine by promoting independence and life long learning, by fostering economic stability and by ensuring the safe and fair treatment of all people on the job.
