WORKERS AFFECTED BY THE OPIOID CRISIS Out-of-work people who believe they have been affected, either personally or through family/friends, by the opioid crisis can apply at no cost for help getting back to work. Additionally, people who are unemployed and want to go into occupational fields related to addiction/recovery can also apply, for help with training and education related to working in these fields. LEWISTON SCHOOLS OFFER EDUCATOR ACADEMY
The Educator Academy is designed to prepare current substitutes, Ed Techs, or Adult Ed students who are interested in working in an educational setting to be successful in U.S. schools. The program will consist of four separate educational courses taught over 12 months.
Who is eligible? New Mainer students who have:
an interest in working in education setting as a teacher or an Ed Tech
the CASAS level of advanced ESL
income eligibility requirement to receive scholarships
a Bachelor’s degree from home country (doesn’t have to be in teaching)
access to their college degrees and diplomas
authorization to work in the US
When is the class? Each class will meet two days a week for 12 weeks. Students should also expect to take additional classes to work on their English to meet the requirements to be employed by the Lewiston Public Schools system. The mode of instruction – via Zoom or in person – is not determined yet.
What do I earn if I complete? In addition to the coursework and continuing education hours, students will also improve English proficiency and receive support regarding the steps necessary to apply to Maine Department of Education (MDOE) for Educational Technician authorization or Initial Teacher Certification. There will also be financial support for fees for translation and evaluation of transcripts, fingerprinting, and MDOE application fees. Education advising for the student’s next steps and career guidance will continue after the conclusion of the Educator Academy.

Community colleges are offering more than 25 free online programs, all tied to skills and jobs that are in demand in Maine. SMALL-BUSINESS ASSISTANCE TO PREPARE FOR ECONOMIC RECOVERY
Many unemployed people today are the owners of small businesses affected by COVID-19. Now is the time to assess the impact the pandemic has had on business. Create a plan to sustain your business with step-by-step assessment tools. Make better decisions about the future of your business and its recovery.

LEWISTON CONSTRUCTION TRAINING PROGRAM OFFERS THREE INFO SESSIONS
A program of training for the construction industry is being organized in Lewiston, and is expected to begin in February 2021. Students will get work experience with local employers and may be eligible for on-the-job training upon completion of the program.
To qualify, participants must pass the CASAS test in reading and math, have the legal right to work in the United States, and successfully complete an eligibility screening. Participants should also be able to pass an employer-sponsored drug screening. The program offers a Work Ready credential, NCCER, OSHA 10, RRP certification, and instruction about workplace safety, hand- and power-tools, along with measuring, fractions, and basic geometry. HELP WITH MAINE JOBLINK & CONTACTING A CAREER CENTER

Maine Dept. of Labor offers a program to help workers who have been laid off or have otherwise lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Rapid Response sessions describe important information such as your health insurance options, registering on our Maine JobLink job-search website, help with your immediate employment needs, a description of CareerCenter services available to you, and explaining that you are probably eligible for occupational training at no cost to you.
