Filing your initial unemployment claim first will also begin the creation of your job seeker account for Maine JobLink, which saves you time and effort.

A new workshop offered at Rockland CareerCenter aims at helping people for whom poor credit scores can get in the way of employment, finance and housing.
There is no cost to attend.
Participants will learn about the expanding significance of credit scores. There will be discussion of how to understand, analyze, repair, and build credit scores.
In the spirit of the SEC's warning on credit repair services, the class will also look at the risks of credit repair and debt management services, and empower individuals to manage their own credit, no matter how dire the circumstances may seem.
Participants will be given the tools to establish credit using both traditional and non-traditional means.
The free workshop will be conducted by Kevin Boggs of Bangor Savings Bank on a non-commercial basis. This is strictly intended to help job seekers understand how credit affects them, and what they can do to improve their situation.
People who want to attend this workshop are asked to register by calling the Rockland CareerCenter at 207-596-2600. Space is limited.
Maine CareerCenters offer workshops and classes on a variety of topics, including networking, job search techniques, résumé writing, and more. CareerCenter staff can also help you determine what programs are available to assist you and put you in touch with the best education and training resources in your area. We offer services for veterans, older workers, young people, laid-off workers, people exploring a career change, and people with disabilities.
