DRY MILLS FISH HATCHERY DISPLAY BUILDING DEDICATION
AND PARKWIDE OPEN HOUSE
The new Hatchery Education Building, complete with a circular trout viewing pool and fish display tanks, will officially open with a dedication ceremony during the free open house at the Maine Wildlife Park this Saturday.
IFW Commissioner Chandler E. Woodcock will dedicate the new building at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 1 at the Dry Mills Hatchery in Gray which is adjacent to the Maine Wildlife Park.
The post and beam educational building allows visitors to get up close to view brook trout as well as feed them. The display tanks give visitors a different angle to see brook trout, and interpretive signage informs visitors all about Maine’s brook trout and the state’s hatchery program. The Dry Mills hatchery stocks about 90,000 trout annually.
The building is a result of a partnership that includes Hannaford-Delhaize Group, USO New England, Sebago Lake Rotary Club, F.E.T. Inc. and Evonik Cyro LLC. Funds from the Maine Outdoor Heritage fund and the Maine Sportsman Plate were also utilized to construct the Hatchery Education Building.
The dedication is just one of the attractions included in the free open house at the Maine Wildlife Park this Saturday, June 1, which will have displays and demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Gates open at 9:30 a.m. and admission is free all day this Saturday, June 1. The Maine Wildlife Park has more than 30 species of native wildlife on display, plus wildlife gardens, nature trails, a fish hatchery and other interactive exhibits and displays.
