Fall is here, and lucky for anglers, there are still hundreds of lakes, rivers, streams, and ponds open for fishing. During the fall months there are special regulations in place as some species are spawning, so be sure to consult the 2021 Open Water and Ice Fishing Laws before you go.
To help you find a fishing destination for your group, we've gathered a list of waters with fall fishing opportunities:
North Zone Lakes & Ponds with Fall Fishing Opportunities (PDF)
North Zone Rivers & Streams with Fall Fishing Opportunities (PDF)
South Zone Rivers & Streams with Fall Fishing Opportunities (PDF)
By General Law, South Zone Lakes and Ponds are open to year round fishing, unless listed as closed with a special regulation. If you wish to fish a lake or pond in the South Zone, check the lawbook to make sure it is not closed.
Or try one of the spots Maine's fisheries biologists highlighted in the October fishing report.
Cobbossee Lake needs your help
MDIFW is assisting the Maine Department of Environmental Protection and Friends of Cobbossee Watershed with the eradication of a new and particularly aggressive invasive form of milfoil (Eurasian Milfoil). Efforts are currently underway to survey and remove invasive plants before they become more widely established in the lake.
An important strategy to reduce spread resulting from rooting plant fragments is preventing initial fragmentation of plants caused by boat motors. The map below denotes areas of infestation (red areas, Winthrop end of the lake). The Department is seeking cooperation from boaters and bass anglers, including the organized bass clubs who fish lake shorelines, to completely avoid these areas when fishing the lake to support restoration and protection of this wonderful state resource.
Please share this important information with club membership and other anglers/boaters to help protect this lake from harmful invaders.

Have you used the Fishing Laws Online Angling Tool (FLOAT)? This map-based display shows which water bodies have special fishing laws, and which are regulated under general law. Click here to open FLOAT.
Remember, you still need to view the general fishing laws in addition to the special fishing laws for the specific water body.
