Free Fishing Weekend is a great opportunity to try fishing for the first time, get back into it, or introduce someone to the sport!
During free fishing weekend, any person may fish for free without a license on Maine’s waterways, except those who have had their license suspended or revoked. All other rules and regulations, including bag and possession limits, apply.
Please note: With the exception of this semi-annual Free Fishing Weekend, inland fishing licenses are required. Fishing licenses were not required during the month of April 2020, but became a requirement again on May 1.

Before you go fishing, please remember to:
-
Be safe and prepared - ALWAYS wear a life jacket. It is early in the season meaning the water is cold, and streams and rivers are high with strong currents.
- Fish close to home
- Have a plan B and C so if your first fishing spot is busy, you can try the next spot
- Don't share equipment
- Follow the CDC guidelines for physical distancing
- Don't carpool with non-household members
- Let someone know where you are going, and when you expect to return
If you are exhibiting symptoms or have recently been exposed to COVID-19, please stay home.
