National Study of Nutrient Removal and Secondary Technologies

EPA has initiated a multi-phase study to showcase nutrient removal at publicly owned treatment works (POTWs). The goals of the study are to establish a nationwide baseline for nutrient removal at municipal wastewater treatment plants, and to characterize lower cost options, such as repurposing existing equipment or changing operation and management practices, that result in improved nutrient control.

EPA released an initial voluntary screener survey questionnaire to POTWs on October 22, 2019.  You may receive a hard copy in the mail or via email.  For more information, see link below:

https://www.epa.gov/eg/national-study-nutrient-removal-and-secondary-technologies

There will be a webinar as noted below with EPA representatives to explain the study and screener survey and answer questions.

Certification Update

Renewals for Even-Numbered Certificates Due March 1, 2020

Do you have an even-numbered wastewater operator certificate? It’s not too early to renew. Online renewals began October 1. Go to the NEIWPCC-JETCC website, www.jetcc.org and click on “Certification Corner” to start the renewal process.

Renewals for even-numbered certificates are due no later than March 1, 2020. Renewal notices were mailed in early October. Contact NEIWPCC-JETCC at (207) 253-8020 if you did not receive your notice.

Not sure if you received all your Training Contact Hours? Click to see the TCH Summary.

To maintain Active status, Maine certified wastewater operators must complete the following by their March 1 renewal date:

• Pay renewal fee ($125)
• Update your contact information, including email, and;
• Provide documentation that you obtained required Training Contact Hours (TCH).

Timely renewal of your operator certification is very important.  Failure to do so makes the certificate inactive, increases cost of renewal, and may lead to other complications.

If your certification is Inactive please contact NEIWPCC-JETCC for further instructions.
If you have questions about the Certification program, please contact Judy Bruenjes at  207-287-7806, judy.k.bruenjes@maine.gov.
