Exploring the Future Forests of Maine

August 21 — Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Head of Tide Preserve, Belfast, Maine. Free. Join conservation biologist Aleta McKeage for a tour of the Forest Research Common Garden at Head of Tide Preserve in Belfast. We’ll discuss the impacts of climate change and invasive plants and pests on the health of Maine’s native tree species. We’ll also explore the role assisted migration — the intentional introduction of new climate-adapted tree species — could play in ensuring forest resilience and productivity in the future. We’ll look specifically at the climate-adapted species growing at Head of Tide and discuss their timber, forest products, food and wildlife habitat potential. Co-sponsored by Waldo County Soil and Water Conservation District.
