Hemp
If you plan to grow hemp for commercial purposes or grow more than 3 plants for personal use, you must obtain a hemp license. Applications for both indoor and outdoor licenses are available from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry’s hemp program webpage.
Here is good news—you have not missed the application deadline because there is no deadline! We simply require that you submit your application at least 30 days before the anticipated date of planting. And, the fees for licenses are the same as they were last year—more good news!
You do need to do read up on how the program operates and what your responsibilities are as a hemp grower. That information can also be found on the program website. There you will find the revised Chapter 274, Rules for Growing Hemp, and an FAQ PDF, among other helpful information.
