Maine’s 2016 Foliage Season is One for the Record Books!
Augusta, ME (October 19, 2016) - The final 2016 fall foliage report from the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry reports past peak conditions throughout Maine.
“Without a doubt, 2016 will go down in the record books as being one of the most colorful fall foliage seasons as seen in the past seven years. It was apparent that the entire state reached peak or near-peak conditions in early to mid-October and the colors were spectacular and long lasting, according to Gale Ross, fall foliage spokesperson. “We’d like to thank our leaf peeping fans for sharing their awesome foliage photos with us to give those folks ‘from away’ who couldn’t be here this fall a virtual tour of why people flock to Maine in the fall. While the colors are now becoming a bit muted, there is still a small window to catch the reds, oranges and yellows. Oak trees are just starting to peak out,” Ross noted.
Foodies of all kinds will relish Portland’s annual food and spirits festival, Harvest on the Harbor, happening October 20-23. Events include a Sustainable Seafood Soiree, Harvest Hop, Maine Lobster Chef Celebration, Market on the Harbor and Chef Showcase.
Enjoy traditional fall activities and more at the 13th Annual OgunquitFest October 21-23. Kicking off the weekend of events is the Ogunquit Playhouse Brew Fest followed by a marketplace with 75 vendors, horse-drawn wagon rides, a wine tasting, kayak rally, costume parade and more throughout the weekend.
Continue your fall foliage touring in Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal, just outside of Freeport. Hike to the top of Bradbury Mountain for picturesque views of the still-colorful leaves. After you leaf peep by land, drive to Portland and take a cruise or kayak tour through Casco Bay for foliage views from the water.
